It’s Okay to Step Off the Field to Protect Your Peace
Let’s be real for a second...sometimes the hardest thing to do is walk away from something you once loved.
For me, that was coaching.
There was a point when I was leading practices, cheering on the sidelines, mentoring athletes… but mentally, I was drained. I kept showing up out of habit, out of pressure, out of guilt. And while I loved the sport, the environment started feeling like more chaos than joy.
So I stepped off the field.
Not because I gave up. But because I was ready to choose peace.
If you’re in a season where the passion feels heavy, the game feels forced, or you’re questioning your place—it’s okay to pause. You don’t owe anyone burnout. You owe yourself the chance to breathe, reset, and come back stronger if or when you’re ready. Sometimes, walking away is the boldest play you can call.
Quick Timeout Check-In:
Am I still growing here?
Do I feel free here?
Is this space feeding me—or draining me?
If you can’t answer those honestly, it might be time to listen to what your peace is trying to tell you.
